WILL of MARTHA HELME MILLS


In the name of God Amen. I Martha Mills widow of William Mills deceased in the town of Smithtown in the County of Suffolk and State of New York being of a sound and disposing mind memory and understanding have thought proper to make execute publish and declare and by these presents do make execute publish declare the following asaid for my last will and testament.

First I order and direct all my just debts and funeral charges to be paid.

Second I give and bequeath unto my daugher Martha Olive the wife of Samuel R. Miller the sum of Two hundred dollars.

Third I give and bequeath unto my daughter Charlotte the wife of Richard Blydenburgh the sum of Two hundred dollars.

Fourth I give and bequeath to each of my grand daughters, Martha E the wife of Josiah C. Low, Hannah Woodhull Mills, and Charlotte Augusta Mills daughter of my deceased son Thomas H. Mills the sum of Fifty Dollars.

Fifth I give and bequeath to each of my grand daughters, Hannah M. Greene and Clarissa M. ----- daughters of my deceased daughter Clarissa the sum of One Hundred and fifty dollars.

Sixth I give and bequeath to each of my grand daughters, Mary Mills Martha Mills and Charlotte Emma Mills daughters of my son William the sum the sum of One Hundred dollars towards giving them a finish Education provided I do not give them the said sum during my lifetime and in case I should give them the whole or any part of said sum, then the same to be deducted from the above bequest.

Seventh I give and bequeath to my grand daughter Louisa Landforth daughter of my deceased son James the sum of One Hundred dollars.

Eigthth I give and bequeath to my grandson James H. Mills son of my deceased son James the sum of Two Hundred dollars.

Ninth I give and bequeath to Mary the widow of my deceased son James the sum of Fifty Dollars.

Tenth I give and bequeath may set of Table Silver to my said daugther Charlotte during her life time and on her decease to her children if she should leave and if she should die leaving no child or children then to my said daugher Martha Olive and all my other furniture, books and apparel I give and bequeath to the said daughters Martha Olive and Charlotte and to my said grand daughters Hannah M. Greene and Clarissa M. Frescott Equally to be divided between them.

Eleventh All the rest residue and remainder of my property I give devise and bequeath to the children of my son William to be equally divided between them.

Twelth I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my grandson Ethelbert S. Mills and James M. Mills sons of my deceased son Thomas the sole Executors of this my last Will and testament. In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of March in the year one thousand Eight Hundred and forty eight

Whereas my grand Daughter Charlotte Emma the daughter of my son William, had died since the execution of the above, my last will I hereby order and direct that the portion intended for her be given to my Grand Daugther Margaret Augusta Mills, Daughter of my said son William Mills in witness whereby I have hereunto set my hand and seal this second day of December 1852. Signed sealed and published by the Testatrix to be a codicil to the above, the last will and Testament in the presence of us who at her request & in the presence subscribed our names as witnesses.
